Meet Farley

Farley, a light gray standard gelding, was born on public lands before being removed by the BLM and sold alongside his mother, grandmother, and younger sister. After spending a few years together, personal and financial hardships led the buyer to place the donkeys in a boarding facility where they were severely neglected. In 2011, Longhopes stepped in to rescue the herd, providing the care and rehabilitation needed to bring Farley and his family back to health.

Following his recovery, Farley was adopted into a loving home where he enjoyed a pampered lifestyle, splitting his time between summers in Colorado and winters in Arizona. Over his 15 years in his adoptive home, he demonstrated his highly social nature through close bonds with companions Hoppy, Buddy, and later Maggie. In 2026, when his adoptive family’s circumstances changed, Farley returned to Longhopes under their safety net guarantee. Now 24 years old, he has seamlessly adapted to life back at the sanctuary, where he continues to enjoy his retirement alongside the other senior donkeys.
