Barkley is a big, black, burly standard donkey who naturally commands respect wherever he walks. Depending on his mood, he steps up to rule his paddock either as a wise, steady leader or as the official herd enforcer. While he has a reputation for keeping a cautious distance from new people and unfamiliar objects, those who know him best see right through the facade.

Life at Longhopes suits Barkley perfectly, as it gives him plenty of space to maintain his tough-guy act, which is mostly just a clever ruse to get out of doing any real work. He genuinely enjoys the security of sanctuary life, spending his days lounging comfortably with a revolving circle of herd buddies and keeping a watchful, protective eye over his territory.
